Ubuntu 11.10 stuck on shutdown

Ubuntu @ January 31, 2012   Views:0

I have Oneric installed on my PC (using wubi alongside win 7).Initially,I had no problem with shutdown.Since yesterday ubuntu is getting stuck when i try to shut down.It just shows the three dots and an error message and then nothing happens. The error is
"bin/sh can't access tty job control turned off"
I googled about it but found out that others are getting this error on start up.I also tried boot repair. The log file is at http://paste.ubuntu.com/825046/ .
I had tried two things which I thing could have caused the problem
i)Tried to run deluge at startup using a script provided on thier site.(FAILED)
ii)Connected my mobile(memory card).
Any help would be very much appreciated.

--------------Solutions-------------

Check /var/log/syslog for issues/error messages.

Use Alt+SysRq R-E-I-S-U-B to safely reboot rather than get in the habit of powering off as this could eventually cause corruption depending on how it is getting stuck.

Make sure you've run all updates.

Yes I have installed the updates.
I can't figure out anything from the syslog file and cannot attach it too .. it exceeds the limit.

This is just the starting part of the syslog and syslog.1 files.

You can try compressing the syslog and attach that, or...
attempt to shutdown. When it hangs try to get to a terminal Ctrl+Alt+F1 and run:

Code:

tail -n 100 /var/log/syslog

See if that shows some error.

PS. I assume you've removed the (mobile) memory card now. Or is that still attached?

Yes,I have removed my memory card now. Also,I cant access the terminal using ctrl+alt+T during shutdown . Another thing is that the error messages during shutdown have changed now.Now it is like this

Code:

fsck from util_linux 2.19.1
/dev/loop: clean, 194518/431632 files,1149572/1726464 blocks(check in 5 mounts)
Skipping profile in /etc/apparmor.d/disable :usr.bin.firefox
*Starting AppArmor profiles
bin/sh: can't acess tty:job control turned off
#acpid:exiting
bin/sh: can't acess tty:job control turned off

#[240.316073] INFO: task Xorg:964 blocked for more than 120 seconds

I can't believe that trying to install deluge would cause problems. Also the memory card might have caused an issue when plugged in (perhaps) but shouldn't be lasting.

Therefore, I'd boot a live CD, fsck the root.disk. You could also run 'chkdsk /r' on windows to be safe (won't hurt).

If that fails to do anything, I'm not sure what I'd do. I've had installs in the past that would freeze on shutdown, in which case I just use REISUB to at least ensure that no damage would be done.

If nothing works, try to compress and upload the log.

I switched back to Ubuntu 10.04 Just could not deal with the issue anymore! Thanks a lot for helping though
